Regina – Xtra mini frilly skirt
Partager
Imagine an old, worn-out pair of sweatpants, forgotten in the back of a closet, reborn as an ultra-trendy ruffled mini-skirt, complete with those famous brand stripes. That's the magic of upcycling: transforming the ordinary into a collector's item that screams Y2K streetwear.

The story of the original sweatpants
These sweatpants were from a brand we all know, found on Vinted for just a few euros – the kind of comfortable basic, with an outdated cut, slightly pilled fabric from wear, and a few stains on the bottom. They had been sitting in my "to upcycle" pile for months, awaiting their moment of glory. Their only asset? Those iconic side stripes, perfect for a bold twist.
My creative process
I saw this transformation explode on social media, especially on American Instagram, a pure Y2K vibe mixed with casual and "girly" streetwear. I had always dreamed of trying it, but the multiple hems held me back with my simple sewing machine. The arrival of my serger changed everything: it was THE sign to get started! My idea? To highlight these stripes as a statement logo, for a mini, dynamic skirt that moves with you.
Techniques and challenges overcome
No pattern for this pioneering attempt – I improvised everything, which allowed me to map out the process: what works (the serger for neat and elastic finishes) and what doesn't (the length and especially keeping shorts underneath).
Fun fact: my sewing machine broke down at the worst possible moment! So I hand-sewed all the ruffles during the movie Un Homme Idéal with Pierre Niney – yes, the entire 1h45 film just to attach them, a real creative marathon in front of the screen (and blisters on my fingers).
My Diva tools: my patient hands and my trusty serger for impeccable edges.

After: Y2K ruffled mini-skirt, ready to conquer the streets.
A unique piece, ready to be yours
The result? An ultra-stylish mini-skirt, twisting streetwear into a unique, trendy, and sustainable piece. Each pleat tells a story of hours of manual patience and technical prowess – imagine it custom-made with YOUR fabrics!
